An article featured on MarketWatch.com on September 26, 2011 indicated that access to high speed internet services is among the top requirements for commercial real estate tenants.
According to the 2011
State of Communications Services in Commercial Real Estate survey "... 90% of respondents say that access to advanced communications ranked as top on the list only after price, parking and location." It seems that high speed internet access has become much more of a priority in recent years, and it's not hard to see why. 61% of those surveyed indicated that having advanced communications in their buildings provides them with a competitive advantage in their industry.
High speed access isn't just for tech and communication companies. Companies in nearly every industry have began using Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Voice Over IP systems (
VOIP), Cloud Computing platforms, to name a few, all of which require high speed internet access.
This being said, offering high speed access alone may not be enough. 19% of those surveyed said that providing multiple high speed options positively affects occupancy rates.
